What is the Insomnia and Anxiety study?
We are inviting individuals who currently experience difficulties with both anxiety and insomnia to help evaluate the effectiveness of our online programs of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT).
This study will compare the two programs in reducing symptoms of insomnia, anxiety and other indicators of mental wellbeing.
What is the program like?
Both programs are online, self-paced and can be completed from the comfort of your home. Participants have 6-8 weeks to work through 4 comic-style lessons that teach practical strategies for overcoming anxiety OR insomnia.
You would be given skills to practice between lessons and can receive support from a mental health clinician via phone or email. All of our clinicians specialise in anxiety and insomnia.
You would be asked to answer questionnaires before each lesson, then 1 week, and 3 months after you finish the program, as well as an online sleep diary.
What can I expect if I decide to apply?
The application process involves 3 stages:
1. Online screening questionnaires (approx. 10 mins): a few brief questionnaires about your symptoms.
2. Telephone interview (approx. 30-40 mins): you will speak with a clinician to discuss further information about your symptoms.
3. Sleep diary (approx. 2-3 mins per day, for 7 days): a few quick questions about your sleep, each morning over a 7 day period.
If the application process reveals this study could be beneficial for you and you meet eligibility criteria, you will be randomly allocated to one of the two treatments programs and you can begin your course immediately.
Who can participate?
To participate you need to live in Australia, be at least 18 years old, have regular access to a computer with internet (webcam is not needed), and be willing to provide us with your full name, email, phone number and address, so that we can contact you.
Unfortunately, we can’t include people with bipolar disorder, psychosis, or schizophrenia, as we don’t have evidence that our program is helpful for these conditions. We also can’t include people who are suicidal.
We will assess for other eligibility criteria during the application process. We may ask to call you for a 30 minute phone interview.
Is it free?
